Faculty Development Programme

Continuous professional development courses for teachers have been one of the hallmarks of NIS.

First FDP

The first FDP of the Academic Year 2023-23 was conducted on May 18 2023 from 9:00 am to

3:00 pm in the School activity hall. The session was taken by Mrs. Sadhana Deshmukh, Director, SDC, Nitte DU. The session benefitted 62 teachers. The sessions helped teachers understand: -

  • How to make Classroom delivery effective with the help of varied techniques
  • Role of teacher presentation
  • Importance Verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Flexibility in teaching techniques

Second FDP

The second FDP of the Academic Year 2023-23 was conducted from May 19 th 2023 to May 20 th 2023 The session was taken Dr. Shailaja Shastri a renowned trainer, researcher and counsellor. The session benefitted 70 teachers.

The two-day interactive session helped teachers to reflect and assimilate the following points: -

  1. Role of educators
  2. Decoding the concept of mentoring
  3. Discussion on the roles and responsibilities of a mentor
  4. Analysis of the mentoring process
  5. Micro skills needed for a mentor
  6. Development of essential documents and records

Third FDP

The third FDP of the Academic Year 2023-23 was conducted from 22 nd to 23 rd May 2023. The session was taken by Dr. Kalpana Sampath on Emotional Quotient. The session benifitted 82 teachers. Dr. Kalpana Sampath ended the two-day session by asking all educators to: To stop working on old methods, to continue and improve and to initiate new strategies.

Fourth FDP

As the Hub lead coordinator CBSE requested NIS to conduct a sensitization programme on Financial Literacy and use of Digital tools on 14th September 2023. An enlightening session was conducted by Mr. Vinayak, a distinguished expert in finance and investments at Nitte International school. The session aimed to provide 65 teachers from the institution with valuable insights into various investment options, including mutual funds, equity funds, index funds, and funds of funds.

Session Highlights:

  1. Understanding Investments:
    • Mr. Vinayak initiated the session by explaining the significance of investments in achieving financial goals.
    • He emphasized that investments are a means to make money work for individuals, enabling them to grow their wealth over time.
  2. Mutual Funds:
    • The session delved into mutual funds, describing them as a popular and accessible investment option.
    • Teachers were introduced to the concept of pooling money with other investors to invest in a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds, or other assets.
    • The benefits of mutual funds, such as diversification, professional management and liquidity were highlighted.
  3. Equity Funds:
    • Mr. Vinayak provided a comprehensive overview of equity funds.
    • Teachers learned about the potential for high returns and associated risks in equity funds.
    • The importance of conducting research and assessing risk tolerance before investing in equity funds was emphasized.
  4. Index Funds:
    • The session covered index funds as a passive investment strategy.
    • Mr. Vinayak explained how index funds aim to replicate the performance of a specific market index.
    • Teachers gained insights into the advantages of low fees and broad market exposure associated with index funds.
  5. Funds of Funds:
    • - The concept of funds (FoFs) was introduced, where one mutual fund invests in a portfolio of other mutual funds.
    • Mr. Vinayak highlighted how FoFs offer diversification across different asset classes and fund managers.

Conclusion:
The Financial Literacy session conducted by Mr. Vinayak proved to be highly informative and enlightening. It equipped the teachers of NIS with valuable knowledge about investments and various fund options.
